Thomas Becker’s life theme is the broad field of landscape depiction, which he has been working on for 35 years. He focuses on the tension between primeval and cultural landscapes, between “”ideal and real landscapes””. Thomas Becker explores selected urban, cultural and primeval landscapes with his camera. In the studio, the photographic sketches are then elevated to representational images of our landscapes using traditional painting techniques in oil on canvas in a painting process lasting several weeks.
The traditional painting technique forces us to be calm and deliberate and forms a counterpoint to contemporary digital image production.

Panel paintings in oil on canvas, monumental unique books based on poems by Paul Celan and photography with the 18×24 cm large-format camera can be explored on Thomas Becker’s website. The virtual museum KUNSTRAUM ULM invites you to take a tour.
