The “Junge Philharmonie Schwaben” consists of around 50 to 60 dedicated young – and young-at-heart – amateur musicians, depending on the program. The orchestra meets four times a year for intensive weekend rehearsals in Ottobeuren and Ulm to prepare a concert program that is performed annually in early summer at the Kaisersaal in Ottobeuren and the Kornhaussaal in Ulm.
In addition to these concerts, the ensemble has gone on several short tours, including multiple visits to Vienna. Stylistically, the orchestra focuses on orchestral works and solo concertos ranging from the Baroque to the Late Romantic period.
A special priority for the orchestra is introducing classical orchestral music to primary school children. Each year, the final rehearsal in Ulm is opened to school groups. The young audience is introduced to the current repertoire in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
