Stiege Ulm

“Stiege Ulm” is an art space that has undergone a rather curious transformation. Originally, the site—located directly on the banks of the Danube—served as a staircase with a public restroom. The steps, built into the city wall, lead from Ulm’s old town down to the Danube riverbank, around 10 meters below.
An art project in 2013 brought new public attention to the location and sparked the idea of revitalizing the space. In 2014, a dedicated team began operating Stiege Ulm.
The concept: each year, one or more international artists are invited to activate and transform the site and its surrounding public space through their work.
